Bernstein believes Ray will help him in eliminating the thousands of candidates who are there to compete. At first, things do not seem to be going as planned. Contrary to the luxurious life that he used to in the United States, Bernstein is shocked to see the overcrowded cities in India and traffic that did not seem to end (Million Dollar Arm). The overcrowding and traffic made it harder for the group to move from one city to the next, looking for new players. He also learns that since most of the candidates are cricket players they have different pitching techniques from those of baseball players.

In addition, getting players who were willing to train and become baseball players within a year was not easy.It was only after a prolonged search he found two young men that were eager to try out the new pitching motions in an entirely new sport. The two new prospects, Dinesh and Rinku are trained by a baseball coach known as Tom House (Million Dollar Arm). Bernstein takes them back home for more training. After training vigorously and participating in different ways when in front of professional scouts and the media from around the world, they fail.

The investor almost gives up on Bernstein’s plan, when he learns that the two players cannot pitch with speed and control. In other scenes, Bernstein decides to get into a serious relationship with his tenant, Brenda, who unlike Bernstein’s previous dates was not a model. She is the only person who still believed that Dinesh and Rinku had the potential. All the other people such as the investor and scouts give up on the two players and dismiss them as a social experiment and not major league baseball potentials (Million Dollar Arm).

She advises Bernstein not to treat the boys as a business deal and instead treat them as a family. In one scene, she reminds Bernstein that they are young people who are far from home and need to feel cared for by Bernstein (Million Dollar Arm). It is only after Bernstein changes his approach and attitude towards them that they change and become what he was training them to become. In one of the last scenes, the two players throw the balls accurately at a speed of 90mph (Million Dollar Arm). This is a move that impresses the scouts and investors.

In the end, they get an offer to play for a major league baseball club in America.
