Body weight is one of the major determiners of self-esteem for most people in society today. For instance, body weight usually bars one from participating in several activities hence affecting their self-esteem. At the same time, body weight comes with a tag by society with people having a low opinion of obese people, hence locking them out of several activities. The effect of one’s body weight on self-esteem has been one of the major contributors to the increased number of unhealthy eating behaviors among the affected people. Mostly those people involved are diagnosed with an eating disorder, bulimia nervosa.

Furthermore, physical activity and the ability to perform activities in a talented way help improve one’s self-esteem. Some of the activities may include playing soccer, swimming, and dancing among others. By being unique in that way, one receives praise which is important for building self-esteem. At the same time, they view themselves differently and the worth of the unique abilities that they possess. Jean Piaget confirms that children’s self-esteem is developed from the age of 6 to eleven. This is the same time that children are introduced to sports.

Self-esteem is a consequence of one’s self-perception and perception of how others perceive him or her, then it is greatly affected by grooming which is judged by several people. For instance, clothing and grooming have effects on how one acts or behavior due to the fact, their dress code, elicits responses from people in a different way. Praise and appreciation from people are fundamental in increasing one's self-confidence and participation in the workplace.

Improving self-esteem
Feeling down sometimes is normal when it does not persist and consistent feelings of falling are signs of low self-esteem. People can utilize various strategies to ensure that they maintain their self-esteem high. To begin with talk positively about themselves since this will prevent them from believing that they are not any good more so when they have been thinking of themselves negatively for a long time. Secondly, one is supposed to avoid comparing self with one another, everybody has his or her unique strengths. Therefore, comparison with others in what they’re good at will lead to poor self-esteem (Neff, 9). Among other activities are exercise, focusing on things that one can change, doing things one enjoys, and celebrating the small stuff only achieve.

The impact of self-esteem on achieving career goals.
Career and self-esteem are tied closely together, therefore for one to gain career success, they have to manage high self-esteem. Self-esteem gives one the confidence they need to carry on their activities which may bring success in their careers. With poor self-esteem, one will not be able to make a suggestion that might bring change in their area of specialization. Thus, poor self-esteem is just like killing one's career as well. Read More
