Ken dean Lawadinata English 101 I BELIEVE I believe that in every loss we experience a benefit, which comes out of it as long as we do not give up. As a child I was taught by my parents that “It is quiet misleading winning all the time, because series of victories will make a person look at himself as a symbol embossed with pride and ego”. Their idea was to explain me that successful winning might lead to give least importance to other essential things in life. We should always, and of course, aim for the pinnacle, but during those times we must not be contemptuous to take a look at what we have crossed and just spare at least a little time to analyze the whole thing. When I was in junior high school, I joined the basketball team, we had matches held every Saturday against other schools in the league, we practice a lot during the whole week days and we were confident to think every time that no team is better than us. In our first game we were defeated with the score 80-2. I was so much disturbed that I never thought we would be so bad, and at that time I just felt that simply training is not enough. I went back home and during dinner I told my dad about the basket ball team and my idea to quit the basketball team and join the soccer team. I said that the basketball team was a mere waste of time. My dad seemed to be inconsistent with my opinion, he went mad and shouted at me, he told me that “if one loss makes you to think of giving up, I am sure you will neither match my success and nor will make your life meaningful” He told me that, when he was young and just started working for his father he had to confront with variety of people and a range of treatments. They were of the view that my dad contracted this position because his dad was the owner of the company, but that didn’t stop him. He remained deaf towards their comments and was contemplating on improving his working style and within 3 months he became a salesperson with a fantastic proof of selling the maximum number of product of that year... Even then I found myself not convinced with his moral; I was still obsessed with the thought that his experience has a lot of discrepancy with mine... The team was so bad, but in order to flee from my dad’s resentment I remained in the basketball team itself. During that year we had lost most of our games, the thought of quitting was taunting me every time when I went for the match, but the words of my dad kept echoing “Do not think of Giving up!”.. So I decided to stay, and started concentrating in practicing and trying to analyze the exact reason behind the successive failures of my team. Every time we lose gave us the chance to think more and fortunately the experience from each failure directed us in the right path of success. By the second season we were on the top three in the league and by the third season we were the undefeated champion, we won all our games. We may come to the decision that loosing may not lead to benefits, but in contrary every time we loose we should ask our self, “How did they win so easily?, Why donot we go and share their mode of practice? Why don’t I do something to defeat them? “Why can’t I steal his ball?”, with every question we ask paves the way for improving ourselves, assessing both our team and the other team. This kind of assessment will definitely lead to a final and unbeatable success. Little by little we improved, every game taught us something, but as long as we do not give up tortuously means we still have the chance to improve. It’s like an inventor who tries to foster a new invention, during his first prototype he fails and finds out that the “A” part was not right, he made another prototype, corrected the “A” part and found now the “C” part lacking. He keeps on correcting it and finally until there is nothing more to correct he made his successful final product. If he had given up when the “A” part appeared as a problem he would not have finished his product. Let us consider the course of experiments conducted by many scientists, if they had thought of giving up after having been failed may be in their beginning attempts, we would not have had innumerable inventions and discoveries that are still enhancing the life style of man. We attempt uncountable times but success reaches its pedestal only after certain epoch. Just like a babe falling many times in the course of walking, first holds a support then slowly walks and finally succeeds. After a couple of years I finally realized that what my dad said have a lot deep things to understand in this world .We should not expect that things will go out of our control even though we might have done everything correctly. There will always be someone or something that might impede as an obstacle in our path, but as long as we do not give up even when we are in the worst hit condition, we will strive more successfully than what we might imagine. I would say that positive reception from others is like a booster to our zeal, this could be achieved in complete form only when a person triumphs out of a critical situation, be it in profession or sports or any other useful activity. At this juncture I would say, what I believe is that no man is born genius; similarly no man is a child to failure. Experience and hard work without the interruption of pride and laziness is a key way to success. Read More
