How can one prevent avoid falling prey to electronic crimes?

  • Taking stringent measures towards ensuring data security is an effective step. At work, for example, one has to ensure that the only people with access to confidential data are authorized employees.
  • Another step is being cautious about divulging confidential passwords or credit card information to any third parties. This means cross-checking the credentials of parties that require this information prior to divulging it.
  • When conducting internet transactions, be careful to read the user agreements prior to reading them. Otherwise, one may find that they have granted fraudsters access to their personal information (Queensland Police).
