This they do at the expense of helping the children in dire need of food and medical attention in the other part of the world. They spend numerous amounts of money each year on things such as going out to diners or movies but cannot spare the money and send it to the really in need. For those who send money, they do it once and do not repeat it. They want the responsibility of helping these children to be taken by the government and the expenses used be distributed evenly in the tax people are paying.

This however according to statistics by the United Nations is not enough as even America does not reach its target budget for providing aid and it is way under board. This solution will therefore not yield much. The people leave it upon others to shoulder the burden of providing and not to be bothered by it as long as they live comfortably. Swift indicates that people do not find it their responsibility to assist those without and hence do not feel guilty to bypass them on the streets where they are suffering without food or shelter among other unnecessary utilities in life.

He therefore offers absurd solution to the numerous children who are born and then wallow in poverty and other problems as well as to those who are aborted simply because their parents cannot afford to bring them into the world to suffer just as they do. The first of the reason why people do not help even though they have the capability to do so is because they do not think it is their responsibility to do so. They always want another person to shoulder that responsibility and especially the government or the extremely rich people.

Other than this there is also the issue of people thinking about themselves first and the others second. The best example is in the example provided by Singer about Bob who values his own property more than the life of the young child and which leads to him saving his car and letting the train
